Remember the first time you went scuba diving? You were excited, nervous and happy, all at the same time. It was an unbelievable, indescribable feeling to be underwater swimming and enjoying the scenery. But after you’ve done this a certain amount of times, it starts to lose its luster. You see the same things over and over again, and scuba diving begins to become, well, a little boring. That seems like a crazy statement, but it happens all the time. When you’ve been at it long enough, it isn’t as fun or as exciting as it was before. So you hang it up and give up on it. But what if, instead of giving up on it, you simply tried something new within scuba diving? Perhaps cave diving would be something you’d enjoy.
What is Cave Diving?
Cave diving is the practice of scuba diving in and around underwater caves. In many oceans, there are caves underwater which can be swam into. If you’ve ever been in a cave above ground, you’ve probably noticed how simply breathtaking it is. It’s even more breathtaking underwater, as there are many more things to see.
Who Can Cave Dive?
Pretty much anyone can scuba dive, so long as they take the appropriate lessons to do so. But cave diving is a more specialized form of scuba diving, so it is something that, obviously, takes a lot more training. Cave diving is not for the beginner scuba diver, and even the intermediate one may have difficulties. It is something that requires a lot of skills to be done safely. It is, simply put, an advanced form of scuba diving.
What Equipment?
With cave diving, you will need more equipment beyond the standard of a suit, mask, tank, fins and snorkel. You will need extra equipment to make things safe, like diving lights to see inside the cave as well as knives, should you need them. You will also need a bigger tank because, most likely, you will be spending more time underwater than you would while normally scuba diving. Why to Cave Dive?
So why is cave diving such a good thing for an experienced scuba diver to do? Check out the reasons below:
Most caves are very beautiful inside. You will find unique geological formations that you would not see elsewhere. You will get to see things that other people may never see in their entire lifetime. Cave diving isn’t something most people are fortunate enough to do, but because you are able to, you will get to see a lot of incredible sights.
Diving is a lot freer in a cave. When scuba diving in a wide open place, you’ll experience waves, winds and a surge that may disrupt your experience. But in a cave, you won’t need to worry about this.
A fascinating way of seeing how the world evolved. Caves can give you a very interesting perspective of how things involved in the world, making a cave dive both entertaining and educatonal.
