What is Deep Sea Diving?
So what exactly does the term “deep sea diving” mean? Well, it basically refers to a type of scuba diving where you descend very far down in the water using manmade equipment. In other words, you don’t usually use more specialized scuba diving equipment like heavy tanks etc. It’s a very stripped down type of scuba diving, as most deep sea divers only wear a mask, suit, flippers and breathing apparatus. The fact that it is so stripped downed can be both exciting an intimidating to divers. Some divers may be excited to not have to deal with big, heavy tanks on their backs, while others may be a little freaked out that they don’t have a breathing tank to “back them up”.
How is Deep Sea Diving an Occupation?
By now, you are probably pretty intrigued by the idea of deep sea diving, but you may not understand just how it can be an occupation. Basically, many businesses that deal with water in some way, be them oil or gas businesses or those that may be in charge of building bridges, need to survey the water to know what to do next. This is where the deep sea diver comes in. A deep sea diver can dive very deep and do the surveying necessary to give the company all the information they need to develop their plan for whatever it is that they are doing.
Deep sea divers may also work for scientific purposes. They may be in charge of collecting the data necessary underwater to perform scientific studies. Additionally, deep sea divers may perform maintenance underwater. Of course, what a deep sea diver does will depend on who they work for.
What Requirements Do I Need to Become a Deep Sea Diver
The great thing about deep sea diving is that even those without a ton of experience can get jobs in this field. Job requirements will vary from job to job, with some companies only requiring PADI certification, while others may expect many years of scuba experience. When you apply for a deep sea diving job, you will be able to see what qualifications are required.
What is the Pay?
Deep sea divers are very well paid considering the fact that it is a hobby for them. Many deep sea divers make around $18,000-$35,000 a year, depending on experience. Job bonuses are frequent, and with enough experience, a deep sea diver can make as much as $100,000 a year.
