Dive Light
A lot of scuba divers stick to diving during the daytime hours. However, an increasing number of scuba divers are turning to the night to do their scuba diving. Indeed, diving at night can be a lot of fun, but with all the fun and mystery of diving at night, it can also become quite dangerous. Suppose you’re out diving in a body of water and so is a boat. What is there to tell the boat that you’re down below and that they should not go near there? Nothing is, and this can result in a possibly tragic accident. What is a Dive Light?
A dive light is a lot like a dive flag, in that it is designed to let people know there is scuba diving down below. The main difference between the dive flag and the dive light is that one is designed to be used during the day, while the other is meant for night time use. A dive light can also be used during the day, but it is considered to be overkill as a dive flag is sufficient.
The dive light is, of course, waterproof and sits right in the water. It is usually a very bright light that can be seen from many yards away, so that an oncoming boat can see the light and maneuver around it. Some lights come in a bright yellow, while others may come in a bright red or green. What color it is does not matter so long as it does not blend in with the water.
How Does a Dive Light Work?
Most dive lights are battery powered. They come in a tough exterior that is waterproof. They are light enough to float in the water, but not so light that they move all around. They’re typically at least a few inches in diameter so that they are highly visible. Dive lights work by alerting people that there is diving going on, so that they are able to make sure they do not interfere with the diving in anyway.
Why Get a Dive Light?
1.They Ensure Safety. If you’re diving late at night, and there’s no dive light telling others of this fact, will you be safe? Maybe, maybe not. The only way to ensure safety while night time diving is to use a dive light.
2.They Give You A Marker. Have you ever gone scuba diving late at night only to find that you have difficulty finding the starting point? It happens a lot. A dive light can provide you with the guidance to get back to the starting point, as all you need to do is look above.
How to Pick the Right Dive Light
There are some things you should be specifically looking for when going to purchase a dive light. These are:
Battery Life. A good dive light doesn’t die out after being used for a little bit of time. Battery life is important when choosing a dive light because you don’t want the light to suddenly die on you while you’re in the water. Check out the battery life of the dive light and try to pick out one with a very long battery life. Durability. This thing will be in the water and, often, moved around. You want a dive light that is durable and will last you for a long time. Make sure to pick a dive light that is made of a tough exterior.
Price. Don’t think you have to spend $200 to get a good dive light when a $50 is more than sufficient. Just pick the best light for your budget and you will be fine.
Reviews. It’s emphasized a lot, but it’s an important fact: reading reviews before buying anything, whether it’s a new car or a scuba dive light, is important. Be sure to get opinions of any light you want to buy before you buy it so that you can make an educated decision.
