After you’ve gotten past the first few scuba diving lessons of your scuba diving “career”, you’ll begin to hear a lot of terms that you’re unfamiliar with. Or maybe you are familiar with them, you’re just not sure you fully grasp them. One thing that you’ll hear about is the “dive club”. And you probably think you know what it is, as well as how to start one. Well even if you do have a rough idea of this, there’s still some things you can learn about it, as you’ll be learning here.
What is a Dive Club?
So what exactly is a scuba diving club? Well, basically, it’s just like any other club. It is a collection of individuals who are interested in the same thing. Just like there are hobby clubs for hobby enthusiasts, there are scuba diving clubs for those who enjoy to scuba dive. A dive club is composed of, typically, at least 4 scuba divers.
Why Kinds of Things Do Dive Clubs Do?
What is the purpose of a scuba dive club? The answer may depend on the specific club, but in almost all cases, the main purpose of a dive club is to provide a place where scuba divers can come together and talk. Many clubs organize meets at the local scuba diving destination and have fun scuba diving together. Some clubs even organize scuba diving vacation trips for club members. Other clubs offer classes for their members to get better at scuba diving. Still others may offer other things that are of some benefit to scuba divers.
How Do I Find a Dive Club?
It’s actually pretty easy. With the ease of the internet, many dive clubs now have web sites, so you may be able to find them via the web. Also, a lot of clubs advertise in some way at the local scuba diving equipment shop. If you’re not able to find clubs through either of these two methods, you can always ask around.
How Do I Join?
Again, this will depend on what club. Some clubs allow you to join by simply filling out a sheet and, perhaps, paying a due. Other clubs are selective—you fill out a sheet, it is reviewed and then they decide whether or not you get in. Believe it or not, but some clubs are much like private golf courses: they won’t admit just anyone. Some clubs can even be as expensive to join as a private golf course.
What Dive Club Should I Join?
It would be silly to just join the first club you find, as you might end up coming to the conclusion that you don’t like the club, anyway. Thus, it is a good idea for you to research a little bit and check out several clubs. To help you make an educated decision, you might consider going to one club meeting for each club and then basing your decision off how you felt about the meeting. You may also decide to ask some of the club members questions about what the club does, what they enjoy most about it etc. The whole point here is to find the right club for you so that it is beneficial, not detrimental, to your scuba diving.
