A good scuba mask can make or break your success as a scuba diver, so it’s crucial that you choose wisely. So how do you choose a good scuba mask? Tip #1: Try It On
There are some things you can decide on just by looking at them. Unfortunately, a scuba mask is not one of them. No mask is one size fits all, meaning that what fits one face well may not fit another face good at all. Thus, you need to try on any scuba mask you are even remotely considering buying. If you don’t try on the mask, you may end up buying something that is ill-fitting and not very useful to your scuba diving.
Tip #2: Notice How It Feels
Trying the mask on is simply not enough. You need to also observe how it feels on your face. You should inhale a few breaths while wearing the mask. When doing this, it should feel natural—not limited at all. Also, you should test to see how well it stays on your face. To test this, try to pull the mask away from your face while it is strapped on. If it pulls away from your mask easily, it is too loose. If it’s difficult to pull away, it’s just the right fit.
